Purebred Breeders is always featuring heroic dogs on our blog and this week is not exception. Rubert “Lee” Littler and Elizabeth Littler, a couple from Ohio rescued a Saint Bernard dog from being put down at a shelter. They had brought the dog home from the Highland County pound. The dog “Herncules” had been found on October 31st bloody and dehydrated by hikers.
Six hours after the adoption from the pound, when Lee was letting Hercules out, he began growling and then charged towards someone. The dog charged after a burglar that was running out of the couple’s basement. The dog was able to bite the man’s ankle as the burglar escaped over the fence. The escaped intruder had also cut off the home’s phone and cable lines before getting away.
The couple feels grateful for their new dog that saved them from a burglar attack just hours after they had saved him from being euthanized; they have certainly earned a place in each other’s hearts.
“To have adopted a dog 6 hours before the incident and have him already defending you with that resolve, it’s amazing. If you show care and affection to your animals, they will return it,” said Lee.
Hercules has definitely lived up to his name.
