Dog is nominated for National Hero Award

Ceili, a 15-year-old mixed lab from Portland, Oregon has been nominated for the National Dogs of Valor Award, sponsored by the Human Society of the United States.  Ceili saved her owner’s life, 62-year-old Danny Fincher.  Ceili kept ‘pestering’ her owner and following him the entire day, knowing that something was wrong.  Fincher would attempt to walk upstairs and Ceili would hold onto his pants or shoes and drag him back down. Moments later, Fincher had a heart attack.

She immediately began barking in an attempt to call the attention of his wife and running into the other room where Fincher’s wife, Gayle, was watching television.  Gayle walked into the other room, where Ceili continued barking ferociously until Gayle realized that Fincher needed help.

Fincher was treated within 20 minutes of his attack and his life was saved, largely in part due to Ceili’s insistence and devotion.  Fincher spent several weeks in the hospital and underwent bypass surgery, and is now recovered and at home with his family.
